Ep24 of TSORR Radio Show took to the air on a chilly winters night in Midrand Johannesburg on 21 June 2019. The thing I love about Radio is that things do not go as planned. The State of the Nation address by the President of South Africa took place earlier that night and I started the show mentioning that instead of blasting into full throttle R ‘n’ R it would be more fitting to start with Running To The Edge Of The World, Marilyn Manson’s apocalyptic slow burning anthem of death and destruction. The intro was great but it didn’t record so the show starts abruptly in the middle of Manson’s masterpiece. Now you know why 🙂
After that it is was full blast, up tempo, two fisted rock and roll with Dio. For a while the song titles did indicate the heavy smog of politics, (Digging My Own Grave & The Joker & The Thief), but I cleared the air with Bowie’s Move On and then one last crazy bit of technical mayhem before settling in for a smooth run. Check out the outro solo on James Reyne’s Ain’t it Always the Way, one of the best ever for pure emotion and the intersection between I Am The Walrus and Time is just great radio.
Among others the show featured The Winery Dogs, Stone Sour, Megadeth, Joe Jackson, Motorhead, David Bowie, James Reyne, Marilyn Manson, Judas Priest, Joe Bonamassa, Wolfmother, Clutch, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Five Finger Death Punch, Dio, Anti-Flag, Steve Earle, Dokken, Jimi Hendrix, Stiff Little Fingers, In Flames. The South African contributions came from The Black Cat Bones, Springbok Nude Girls and Jack Hammer.
