The Distillers: How did the world miss a band this cool?

Sometimes, not often, but enough for it to really mean something you discover a band that is just so rock and roll it makes you want to burst.  Bowie always had that line “Ain’t there one damn song that can make me break down and cry”.  It’s off Young Americans and, apart from being an amazing song, it’s a classic line that has had a profound effect on me.  I probably mentioned this in The Story of Rock and Roll but it is the idea that you go through lean periods with music, where things are generally great BUT there ain’t “that one damn song”.  And then suddenly there is.  And it applies equally to bands, but Bowie didn’t make it about bands so I will have to.

So right here right now that band is The Distillers or more realistically it is the amazing Brody Dalle.  To me Brody epitomises everything that amazing about rock and roll, she just hits the spot, uber-cool, rebellious, no holds barred full-throttle punk rock that the world somehow missed.  If Rock and Roll were only about attitude, Brody Dalle would be number one all over the world.  Yeah, yeah I know I am overcooking it again but hey take a listen and imagine you could be this cool.
