A lot of people swear that the 70’s was the best time for music. There was some good stuff out in the 80’s and 90’s but it definitely felt like the slide had begun. In the late 70’s everything felt fresh and there was great excitement when a new album was released by any decent rock band. Trying to explain what it was like in today’s world of instant downloads, MP3 and way to much quantity without much quality is difficult. This fantastic clip of Grand Funk Railroad smashing it out will really help. There was a rawness to it all and the music felt real. It sounded like guys who had just plugged into their amps and were blasting it out which was exactly the point. I have been in many bands where that approach just generates a huge fucking noise so to be able to pull it off you had to actually really be able to play well and that is what those bands could do. They leave enough space for everyone but it’s still full and rocking. This track should bring an instant smile to your face, its what rock music is supposed to sound like. We won’t see these days again that’s for sure.
