For the first time on this blog I have really mixed things up and added three video clips instead of the usual one. This is because Coheed & Cambria are so versatile that you actually need to see different sides of them, the emotional picking and soulful vocals on ‘Mother Superior’ to the full throated roar of ‘Gravemakers and Gunslingers’ and because I can’t find any other reason to slide in the hot blonde milf cannibal psycho video.
They are lumped in the Prog Rock genre but I think that does them a disservice and limits them a bit, either way Coheed and Cambria are one of the finest bands around. If you need confirmation of this the best way to get it is either to listen to the first four albums or even better to get the DVD Neverender where they play these four albums, one each night, over four consecutive nights. The four albums, The Second Stage Turbine Blade, In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth:3 and Good Apollo I’m Burning Star IV, Vol I and Vol II make up a vast concept quadrilogy written by vocalist / guitarist Claudio Sanchez.
There are comics and books all based on this whole Amory War idea that he had and at some point someone is going to have to turn it into a movie I guess. It is a musical masterpiece and when they play them live over the four nights it is incredible. In interviews you can hear that most of the fans attended all four nights if they possibly could. The short cut to Coheed & Cambria is to just go and listen to Good Apollo I’m Burning Star IV Vol II: No World For Tomorrow and rock out, you’ll get the idea.
