In around 1990 Steelheart released their eponymous debut album and it was an immediate smash. It came in late for the golden era of hair metal and immediately collided with the Grunge zeitgeist. The obvious thing that literally screamed out was how good vocalist Michael Matijevic was. He was going through octaves like a fat kid eating sweets. There isn’t a lot written about Steelheart and they are clearly one of those bands that didn’t get to the heights they possibly could have. Management, timing, personal issues, all of the above ? I can’t say there is so little info I won’t speculate. It is however my duty to bring this new album to your attention. Michael is back, the album rocks, the band look healthy and ready to ride the wave of nostalgia for good metal and rock that is currently popular. I put the new track up and threw in an old classic just for posterity. Check out the vocal on I’ll Never Let You Go’, at [3:14], he hits the note and just keeps climbing, incredible stuff. Steelheart were great but they didn’t really make it, they could probably give a whole lot of reasons for that, but this current older wiser line-up is really good and so is the album. Forget the past and live for today \m/
